The international teacher training session for the VAL-YOU project took place in Vienna. This European initiative is dedicated to promoting European Union values through innovative teaching methods and game-based learning tools. The project is co-promoted by the Polygonal association, an organization with which the Spinelli Institute has collaborated for several years on outreach activities aimed at young people and educators.
Organized within the framework of a European partnership involving POTIS (the Austrian Centre for Citizenship Education in Schools), VAL-YOU, and Game Lab, the training activity brought together teachers and education professionals from various European countries. They engaged in three intensive days of work focused on developing educational skills related to active and democratic citizenship.
The program opened on September 29 with an orientation and project presentation session, followed by in-depth discussions on European values and a visit to the European Parliament’s interactive experience. The day concluded with a networking event that fostered cultural exchange among the participants.
On September 30, activities continued with a focus on Digital Game-Based Learning—a methodology that uses games as educational tools to foster student learning, participation, and engagement. Teachers also tested the educational game developed as part of the VAL-YOU project, offering observations and suggestions to improve the tool. Throughout the day, practical workshops on classroom implementation and hands-on sessions regarding the use of digital resources were organized. The final session on October 1st was dedicated to evaluating the educational materials and lesson plans developed by the project partners, featuring collaborative discussions aimed at sharing best practices and defining the next stages of project development. The proceedings concluded with a meeting of the European consortium to plan future activities and strengthen the international cooperation network.
The initiative reaffirms the European partners’ commitment to promoting innovative educational pathways that connect younger generations with the founding values of the European Union through participatory, digital, and inclusive methodologies.
The VAL-YOU project aims to enhance understanding of European values, democratic citizenship, and active participation by providing teachers with concrete, innovative tools for use in educational and training activities with students.
