The Altiero Spinelli Institute for Federalist Studies (https://www.istitutospinelli.it) has been organizing an international seminar on the island of Ventotene for the last 40 years, since 1982.
This island off the Italian coast is where Altiero Spinelli and Ernesto Rossi, authors of the Ventotene Manifesto, were imprisoned during the Second World War.
Each year, young federalists gather here, with leading experts from the European and World Federalist Movement, to explore federalist thinking on European and global issues. In 2021 edition we had the participation of the President of the Italian Republic Sergio Mattarella (see the video at https://www.quirinale.it/elementi/59418).
The seminar is a unique and intensive experience in European and Federalist studies. This is the most important federalist seminar in Europe and the world. At least one session of the international seminar is dedicated to global issues and world federalism. There is space for 30 young applicants to the 2023 event, taking place from 3rd August to 8th September.
The Spinelli Institute will select up to a maximum of 3 young participants coming from AO/MOs of WFM (from outside Europe), and will reimburse a total of 1500 euros to be shared between the selected participants towards travel expenses following the schema detailed at the bottom(*). This has been funded by a grant from WFM and UEF Italy.
All participants receive, without any cost, full board and accommodation from the lunch of September, 3rd to the lunch of September, 8th (inclusive).
A seat deposit of 100 € needs to be paid in advance by both European and non-European participants, once they have been selected, in order to confirm their participation. The full amount of 100 € will be returned to each participant at the end of the seminar, provided that they have attended all sessions. Instructions for paying the deposit will be given in the notice of acceptance.

Applicants must be 35 or younger on September, 2023.
The deadline to apply to the international seminar is June 25, 2023.
In April 2022 the European Commission recognized the cultural role of Ventotene and its Manifesto (https://culture.ec.europa.eu/cultural-heritage/initiatives-and-success-stories/european-heritage-label/european-heritage-label-sites/ventotene-italy).
They became a common heritage of European and world citizens.
In the same month the European Parliament approved a resolution on European civic education in which it recognized Ventotene as the historical capital of the moral and intellectual construction of European values. For all these reasons the 2023 Ventotene international seminar is a unique opportunity for young world federalists.
(*) The percentage of the quota to be reimbursed to each participant will be calculated in this way:
PERCENTAGE = AVAILABLE FUNDS / SUM OF THE TRAVEL COST OF THE 3 SELECTED PARTICIPANTS
Let’s make an example: if we have 3 participants (P1, P2 and P3) with the following travel costs:
P1 = 1500€ | P2 = 500€ | P3 = 1000€. The sum of the travel cost is 3000€.
Percentage = 1500€ / 3000€ = 50%. Each participants will receive 50% of the travel cost.
P1 will receive 750€ | P2 will receive 250€ | P3 will receive 500€
