SUNDAY SEPTEMBER 1

On Sunday, September 1, after the joint session with the 43rd Italian Seminar (ITA) with institutional greetings (see here: Conclusa la 43° edizione del Seminario nazionale di Ventotene 2024 – (istitutospinelli.it))  started the 40th International Ventotene Seminar: “FEDERALISM IN EUROPE AND THE WORLD. Towards the United States of Europe and a new world order” by Spinelli Institute, in partnership with UEF and JEF.

This session opened (ENG) with Josep Borrell High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy/Vice-President of the Commission EU and the new and former Spinelli Group Domenec Devesa, Guy Verhofstadt, Nikolaos Faran­touris and  Thijs Reuten,
Philippe Laurette President Association Jean Monnet and Klaus Welle former Secre­tary-General of the European Parliament, Chair Martens Centre’s Academic Council, concluded the session with two important reports dedicated to Spinelli and Jean Monnet also. Chairman Stefano Castagnoli, President Spinelli Institute.

Before this event, in the Hall of Ventotene Municipality, there was a meeting by Spinelli Group: a signing ceremony of the Action Committee’s Partnership for the United States of Europe with interventions: Domènec Ruiz Devesa, President of the Union of European Federalists, Philippe Laurette, President of the Association Jean Monnet, Christelle Savall, President of the Young European Federalists. Testimonial Stefano Castagnoli, president of Spinelli Institute.

Antonio Saggio Award

At the end of the presentations, the Award was given to the best paper by a Maka Etsadashvili seminarist in memory of Antonio Saggio, an award that has reached its 10th edition.

Finally, a special philatelic stamp dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the death of Eugenio Colorni, with a new commemorative postcard for the 43rd edition of the national seminar, thanks to the joint initiative of Poste Italiane spa and Istituto Spinelli.

MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 2

Each formation session was followed by working groups and the debate.

The first step started in the moorning with: “History and role of federalism and of the European Federalists (UEF)” speakers Luisa Trumellini, Domenec Devesa, Martì Grau and Sara Bertolli.

In the afternoon, visit to the tombs of Altiero Spinelli and Luciano Bolis to the Ventotene Cemetery with Pier Virgilio Dastoli, Spinelli’s assistant, and the Spinelli Institute staff Stefano Castagnoli and Mario Leone.

In the afternoon a new training session about Reconciling the need for federal deepening and political enlargement, speakers Christelle Savall and Luca Lionello with Brigita Krasniqi.

In the evening, a meeting was held at the Ventotene Town Hall to relaunch the Action Committee organized by the European Union of Federalists with the Jean Monnet Association, the Spinelli Group and the Young European Federalists partner Jean Monnet House, in collaboration with the Spinelli Institute.

TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 3

Other two sessions per day: the first by Giulia Rossolillo and Chiara Bertolli about European sovereignty in the proposals of the European Parliament to amend the Treaties with Federico Tosi; the second by Brando Benifei and Benedetta Bertolli, coordinated by Melanie Thut about The digital transformation. Challenges and opportunities.

WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 4

The first training session was about Building an EU Defense for Fostering Positive Peace, speakers Vincenzo Camporini and Kati Systä, coordinated by Benedetta Veneruso. In the afternoon coordinated by Jacopo Provera, talk about The ecological transformation. Challenges and opportunities, speakers Chloè Fabre and Brigita Krasnisqi.

THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 5

FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 6

The last day of international seminar was about Our commitments as federalists: Innovation and tradition, a panel discussion on political communication and campaigns coordinated by Davide Negri and Flavia Sandu.
